PSG, Bayern Munich, Celtic… none of them are as dominant in their own league as FK Arkadag, although Guinness World Records are sceptical about that.

Until only two weeks ago, Turkmenistan’s best team claimed to have won every match in their two-year history as a club. A streak of 70 consecutive victories would have made Arkadag’s winning run the longest ever recorded.

Guinness, however, question the streak’s legitimacy. All sorts of murky business has been alleged since the club was founded by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the president of a de facto dictatorship, only two years ago.

On Saturday, though, Arkadag could win a continental trophy in the AFC Challenge League final. This could be the legitimacy they’re looking for.
